It seems that every ad or marketing campaign I've seen lately begins with the words "In these uncertain economic times..." whether or not it has anything to do with the product or service being promoted. As in, "In these uncertain economic times, more than ever you need a new mop."
Given the laziness of this approach, I like to point out what I think are examples of brilliant marketing when I find them. Here's a great example:
Why is this so brilliant? Obviously, it's tons of fun. But why is it so great as marketing? Let me (re)count the ways. It was relatively cheap to produce. An open audition for dancers, some cameras, one dress rehearsal...and something was produced that: delights anyone who watches it; effectively promotes the product (notice all the people recording the scene on their cell phones or calling their friends); underlines the motto, "life is for sharing"; and is seen by millions and millions of people without having to buy one dime's worth of media time. (This particular video, according to YouTube, has been viewed approximately 8 million times.) Want to see how they did it? Go here.

Great video! I love good viral marketing when it's done right.
